Lewa House is set on top of a hill with an engaging panoramic view of the rolling landscape of the Lewa Conservancy, and overlooks the luggas (valleys) and hills, with the horizon rising to the eye-catching views of the Mathews range and the sacred mountain of the Samburu, Mount Ololokwe.
 
The accomodation at Lewa House is in the form of cottage style rooms which are spread out along the hillside, all looking to the expanse of wilderness to the north.  There are 3 of the original thatched family cottages, each comprising of two en-suite rooms and a large shared veranda. The 4 more recently added earthpods are built with sustainable, ecological principles in mind whilst still being exceptionally comfortable and spacious, with wonderful views across the surrounding landscape.

The heart of Lewa House is a large elegant building with an open fireplace at one end where guests can relax during the day and mingle with a drink before dinner, and at the other is a large family dining table where the evening meals are served, hosted by Calum and Sophie Macfarlane.

There is a large shaded verandah extending away from the main house with a comfortable seating area from which you can enjoy a cool afternoon drink and soak in the very special atmosphere of Lewa House.

Beautiful shaded gardens surround the house and breakfast or lunch is often served on the lawn. The house also has a large swimming pool which overlooks a waterhole providing some of the best game viewing on Lewa!

Borana Lodge is at the heart of Borana Conservancy, with a fantastic view of Mount Kenya. The boutique camp has 12 luxury tents (8 river tents and 4 forest tents). All tents have been placed far apart from each other to offer maximum tranquillity and privacy.

The luxury tents are spacious and can accommodate up to 4 guests. They include an en suite bathroom with hot and cold permanent showers, a flushing toilet, and a large veranda.

Peponi is a small hotel located on the exotic island of Lamu, off the coast of Kenya. Peponi is still run by the Korschen family, who opened the hotel in 1967. It still retains much of the character and charm that it had then. With just 28 rooms Peponi is small and personal.  It is a great way to extend a safari or as a stand alone holiday to enjoy this historical part of Kenya. 

Soroi Cheetah Tented Camp has a beautiful location on the lower side of the Bluff in the Tsavo National Reserve. Each of the four canvas walk-in style tents has comfortable twin beds and 2 tents can be converted to double beds. All tents have an en-suite bathroom, bucket shower, and flush toilet. The best bit is the private verandah with a spectacular view.

Maasai Trails is all about your guides, local Maasai from the Loita area, who are eager to share their customs and culture, whilst teaching you the lore of the bush. The Loita Maasai who lead you on these trails are reputed to be the most conservative of this tribe, dedicated to their traditions, ceremonies and rites of passage. As a people, the Maasai have struggled over the years to maintain their culture and have shied away from large scale developments and lodges that comprise other parts of Eastern Africa… thus is the beauty of Maasai Trails. This small low impact camp and mobile camp are a sustainable method to bring income to the local people whilst protecting the natural surroundings of the Loita Hills and sacred Forest, as well as their culture!

The Trails can vary in number of days and any number of people can join from one up to 14, but the trails stay the same and all begin from a base Camp where the donkeys who carry the camp are weighed and packed. Discreetly ‘tucked away’ in a riverine forest on the banks of the seasonal Olare Orok River, Soroi Mara Bush Camp is in an excellent location in the heart of the Game Reserve close to Ol Kiombo airstrip.

All 12 luxury tents have been placed far enough apart to ensure maximum privacy. All tents are furnished with a comfortable King-size bed and an additional single bed, mosquito net, en-suite bathrooms and permanent hot and cold showers, clothes rack & storage chest, writing desk & private veranda.

Porini Cheetah Camp opened in June 2017 and like all the other Porini camps, the camp is a small-tented camp designed to maximize your wildlife experience. It is hosted by Jui and Nirmalya Banerjee who are avid wildlife enthusiasts themselves. The Porini Cheetah Camp is unfenced and located inside a private conservancy far from the usual safari crowds. It has just six spacious guest tents. The camp offers Wifi Internet in the public areas . Kicheche Mara Camp is a classic tented camp hidden in a beautiful valley in a prime wildlife area of the Mara North Conservancy. The luxury tents are laid out alongside a seasonal stream from where you can observe the resident birdlife and plains game beyond.

The intimate and exquisite Mara Plains Jahazi Suite is perfectly suited to experience a private Kenya safari of the wildlife spectacle on offer in the Masai Mara Reserve and the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy. The Elerai Camp project is a community project that has been a long time in the making. The Cottage Rooms & Deluxe Tents at Elerai Camp were built and designed to ensure that your stay will be in complete luxury. The Gamewatchers Safari Adventure Camp is located within the Selenkay Conservancy – a 15000 acre private wilderness in the heart of Maasai country near Amboseli. All the big cats have been seen in the Kenyan Conservancy as well as elephants and a wide range of species including large numbers of giraffes, zebra, and antelopes. There are also less common animals which may be seen such as the long-necked gerenuk gazelle, lesser kudu and African wildcat.

Each of the two rooms has a king size bed and a single bed, The high-quality, spacious tent is tastefully furnished and has solar-powered lighting, ensuite facilities (with hot shower and flush toilet) and a private veranda. The conservancy is home to a variety of animals including the “Big Five”. It is the largest sanctuary in East Africa for the endangered Black Rhino and is also a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees.

Porini Rhino Camp is in a secluded valley, on the banks of a seasonal river and under the shade of acacia trees. The Kenyan safari camp in Ol Pejeta consists of just eight spacious and comfortable guest tents, each having been carefully sited to take advantage of the wonderful surrounding views.  Each tent is tastefully furnished and has solar-power lighting and ensuite hot shower and flush toilet. The camp is specially designed to have minimum environmental impact (with no permanent structures and using eco-friendly fuel). The newest tent is the family unit that is a H shaped and located about 20 metres from the main areas. The unit is made of high quality canvas, is spacious, each wing measuring 64 square metres and the lounge is 16 square metres. It consists of two rooms with a lounge in between. Each of the two rooms has a king size bed and a single bed, The high-quality, spacious tent is tastefully furnished and has solar-powered lighting, ensuite facilities (with hot shower and flush toilet) and a private veranda. The unit is ideal for families or group of friends traveling together and is at the same price per person as our other tents.

The camp has the benefit of a wildlife viewing hide which enables guests to observe and photograph wildlife safely, yet in close proximity. The hide has been carefully placed to enhance wildlife-viewing right in front of camp, and with the peaceful setting and the animals freely strolling in, guests can really immerse themselves in the surroundings and feel part of nature.

While in Ol Pejeta, you can visit the Morani Center and the endangered species enclosure with the last remaining Northern White Rhinos on the planet, the chimpanzees sanctuary, or pay a visit to the anti-poaching dogs. The Chimpanzee Sanctuary offers a home to orphaned chimps from West Africa and is an excellent venue to observe the 2 families and learn about the perils facing chimpanzees in the wild.

Set in 200 acres of private land, and with a rustic charm all of its own, the lodge nestles in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at almost six thousand metres, is Africa’s highest and most famous snowcapped mountain. Sasaab is a stunning blend of Moroccan and Swahili style, located in the heart of the African bush. Hidden under ancient trees deep in the forest, are just ten tents which line the winding banks of the Mara River. Dark chunky wooden tables contrast with oversized blue couches and a central, colourfully beaded chandelier, while tribal portraits and African artefacts are dotted around. AfroChic, Elewana’s boutique beach hotel located on the sandy shores of Diani Beach in Kenya, will be closing, temporarily, for an exciting renovation and refurbishment programme.

The extensive project will centre on enhancing the overall property experience through a significant investment in the property’s structural design, its exterior and interior aesthetics as well as its gardens and recreational areas. 

The new contemporary proposition will “promote the work of local African painters and designers, crafters and weavers, welders and sculptures, artisans and artists; an ode to the indomitable creative African force” said Jalan Sahba, interior designer for the project.

“We are all very excited to undertake this project and upgrade AfroChic and to be able to do so whilst celebrating local creativity and talent, is an honour ” said Karim Wissanji, Founder and CEO of Elewana.

AfroChic will be closed from 23rd October 2022 and given the extent of the planned renovations, AfroChic will remain closed until December 2023, or as otherwise advised.

Samburu Intrepids is a lush oasis on the banks of the great Uaso Nyiro River in Samburu Game Reserve.
