Tongabezi LodgeTongabezi Lodge is located on the banks of the Zambezi River just upstream from Victoria Falls, and is privately owned and managed. Tongabezi has a sister property, Sindabezi, which is located on a nearby island in the river.
The lodge welcomes guests to a selection of houses and cottages, each beautifully styled with furniture and embellishments from all over Africa. Personal valets are assigned to every house and cottage. Dining can be your own choice – either beside the river or on your private terrace. The Lookout was conceived as the ultimate chill out zone next to the existing Tonga Lounge, dining and cocktail decks. With its feet planted firmly in the Zambezi, the Lookout offers you the chance to feel at one with the great river and the separate levels ensure extra privacy. The lodge also offers itself as a wedding and honeymoon venue. Thrilling boat trips to Livingstone Island are available, where David Livingstone caught his first glimpse of the mighty falls. The majestic Victoria Falls can be viewed on foot in the national park, from inside the gorge, from Livingstone Island and from the air in helicopter flights. Built with the perfect view, and privacy in mind, the Honeymoon House offers luxury accommodation. The private balcony overlooks the river, providing a perfect setting for a secluded candlelit dinner beneath the stars. |
The Bird House features an open-air sunken bath and a private terrace for al fresco dining.
At the end of the swimming pool a hidden path winds along the cliff face to the secluded Tree House. Set against the basalt rock bed, amongst the branches of the riverine trees, this house spreads out over various levels.
Suspended over the river the lowest deck is taken up by an extensive bathroom with a large sunken bath. The king size bed features a large canopied mosquito net and offers incredible views across the Zambezi, with the upstairs bathroom having a shower and a toilet with a view. An extended mezzanine lounging deck can also be used for private dining.
All the inclusive Tongabezi activities are available, but this house is so much part of the surroundings that you can experience the beauty and majesty of Zambia without setting a foot outside.
The Dog House is located at the very end of the elevated garden path, and hugs the Zambezi River along a private deck that sits low across the water. The sprawling space presents a number of loosely designated chill zones. Whether you choose to venture out to enjoy the inclusive activities, dabble in serious adventure – or simply elect to order the massages - the brand new Dog House will offer you all the comforts necessary for a unique experience.
The Nut House is a haven from the elements. It is entirely enclosed with light streaming in through every wall. Charming glass tiles reflect the sunrise in African patterns onto the wood and stone floors. Folding doors open into the private garden and infinity plunge pool, and spectacular views over the Zambezi are guaranteed from the elevated position on the river bank.
Because the River Cottages are close-fronted with gauze netting in the windows, they are better suited to guests who feel nervous about sleeping in open fronted rooms, but still wish to listen to the sounds of the bush at night.
The Garden House perfectly fills the family travel niche at Tongabezi. Set back from the river, seclusion and shelter are a happy swop for the sweeping Zambezi views that can still be enjoyed from any of the decks of the main lodge.
It is a very private and safe space where all the members of your family can spread out a little and indulge in an exclusive dining room, large lounge, 2 double en suite bedrooms and of course run around the garden and cool off in the private plunge pool.
There is no set pattern to days at Tongabezi. You can do as much or as little as you wish.
Some of the many inclusive activities available to you are: game drives, bush walks, canoeing on the Zambezi, island lunch, sanpan floating candlelit dinner, visit to Mukuni Park, sunrise and sunset boating, introduction to Simonga Village, visit to Victoria Falls, museum tour, fishing, and a visit to Maramba Market.
