Tartaruga Maritima Tented Camp is situated in the extreme south of the pristine Mozambique coastline, 16km from the South African border.
The tents are housed on raised wooden platforms with veranda decks offering an excellent hideout for birding or just enjoying the tranquility of the camp.
There are 8 suites each having an en suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, comfortable beds, mosquito netting, overhead fan, electric plug points, in-room safe, fridge, as well as tea and coffee making tray.
The dining area is furnished with tables and chairs that are set by the staff for breakfast and dinner with table cloths, crockery, cutlery and candles for dinner.
A fully-equipped kitchen comes with cooking facilities, fridges and deepfreezes.
The 'boma' area with a firepit is provided for you to enjoy the ambience of the bush at night.
Currents close to the shore move with the seasons and hence care should always be exercised when swimming, especially as there are no permanent lifeguards on duty.
The beautiful long and uninterrupted stretches of white sandy beaches, inland lakes and swamps, warm water, all-year round sub-tropical climate, and coral reefs provide an eco-system for the vast number of species of game and reef fish, dolphins, and whales that traverse the area, as well as being a favourite nesting area for leatherback and loggerhead turtles.
There are not yet any formal hiking and nature trails so, for the adventurous, off-road hiking is very much a pioneering experience.
