Sussi and Chuma

Picture

Country:  Zambia

Location: Livingstone / Victoria Falls

Style: Luxury Lodge

Located on the edge of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park which boasts a wide variety of game as well as countless opportunities for adventure, Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma is a short drive from the world famous Victoria Falls and within earshot of the mighty roar of “The Smoke that Thunders.”

Built on a dramatic bend in the Zambezi River, it is named after explorer David Livingstone's two faithful companions who carried his body all the way back to England from where he died in Zambia.

The split level main lodge, perched in giant ebony trees overlooking the Zambezi, includes 12 tree houses connected by raised wooden walkways.

Each tree house enjoys superb views over the river and is an open plan room with shower, bathtub, vanity area and private toilet.

The 2 private luxury houses, complete with personal chefs and house staff, are designed with 2 bedrooms each, their own dining areas and decks including private plunge pools.

The main area offers you relaxing hours at both the swimming pool and at an elevated bar.

You can also indulge in a range of spa treatments while enjoying spectacular views over the Zambezi River.

Game drives by highly trained guides in custom-built 4 x 4 safari vehicles, offer you sightings of prolific wildlife including elephant, impala, giraffe, buffalo, hippo, crocodile, zebra and white rhino and possibly a rare sighting of wild dog that occasionally pass through the park.

Walking tours of the Falls allow you to marvel at the power and majestic beauty of this natural wonder.   Rainbows are constantly forming and collapsing in the tropical sunlight over the waterfall with its cloud of brilliant spray where the mile wide Upper Zambezi falls 300 feet into the Lower Zambezi.

Zambezi River cruises in specially designed Sanctuary boats take you through an invigorating series of grade 2 rapids, before eventually finding a spot to beach for a break or a sunset cocktail.

The Flight of Angels offers you an unrivalled view of the imposing Victoria Falls from a flight in a helicopter.

White water rafting must rank near the top of exhilarating adventures.    The rapids on the Zambezi are officially defined as "Grade 5" by the British Canoe Union and therefore are only for the brave at heart.

A minimum of 4 people and no children under 15 years are allowed to participate on the rafting activity.   Sustenance is provided throughout this epic excursion.

Walking safaris, accompanied by highly trained professional guides and an armed National Parks ranger, are limited to a maximum of 6 guests for safety reasons.   These 2 hour leisurely walks, either early morning or late afternoon, introduce you to in-depth knowledge of the bush including a possible sighting of the rare white rhino, before rounding off with welcome refreshments.

Exploring Victoria Falls from the Zimbabwean side presents another perspective on this incredible location.   A walking tour, lasting approximately 1½ hours, (3 km), meanders through the rainforest, stopping at various vantage points.
