Siwandu

Picture

Country: Tanzania

Location: Selous Game Reserve

Style: Luxury Tented Camp

Siwandu is situated within an open palm forest on the shores of Lake Nzerakera, a massive lake adjoining the great Rufiji River in the Selous Game Reserve.

Siwandu consists of 2 separate camps, North camp with 6 tents, and South camp having 7 tents.

Each camp provides a high level of seclusion, and has its own host, kitchen and dining area, game viewing vehicles, jetty for boat safaris, swimming pool and walking guides.

All safari tents are widely spaced along the lake shore ensuring maximum privacy and wonderful views.   Each tent is built on a raised timber platform with 2 large verandas on either side.  They are appointed with ceiling fans, and the en suite bathrooms all have open air hot water showers.

There are no fences and no artificial modifications, so animals often wander freely through the camp, with hippos and elephants being a nightly occurrence.

Although game viewing and communing with nature can readily be achieved without moving from the camp itself, full opportunities are available to explore more of the Selous Game Reserve, its intriguing topography, fascinating flora and its teeming wildlife.

Siwandu offers an exceptionally large array of activities to choose from.  Be it river safaris in boats, game drives in open-sided 4x4 vehicles, or game walks, your guides will personally tailor all activities to suit your individual preferences.

The river and lake systems around the camp attract a huge diversity of animals including lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, hippo and crocodile.  The area is also home to one of the few remaining wild dog populations in the world.

The Selous is a birders’ paradise with more than 300 bird species being recorded in this region.
