Selous Serena Camp
Country: Tanzania Location: Selous Game Reserve Style: Permanent Luxury Tented Camp Selous Serena Camp in the Selous National Reserve is set amidst dense indigenous forests with magnificent 360-degree views over the surrounding bush. Accommodation is provided in 12 tents positioned for optimum game viewing as well as privacy and exclusivity. All the tents are set on a wooden deck under a thatch covering with en suite Victorian-styled bathrooms and private viewing decks. Each tent is furnished with luxury double or twin beds, polished rosewood furniture, rugs and crystal chandeliers. Room facilities include laundry, valet and shoeshine services, mineral water and toiletries, bathrobe and slippers, snacks and drinks, room service, safe and hairdryers. The central open-sided dining room, lounge, library and bar, slightly raised on timber decks, are interconnected by wooden walkways offering excellent views of the Selous Game Reserve. Camp activities include morning and afternoon game drives in custom built open-sided safari vehicles. Other wildlife experiences include family boat safaris, guided walks and family breakfasts in the reserve. Culturally interactive trips to local villages and/or schools, and cultural dancing and heritage displays can be arranged. High above the lodge is an‘infinity’ pool and sundeck where you can enjoy swimming supervised by a qualified life-guard. A wide selection of board games and books on Africa and the wilderness are available. |

Regular flights link the reserve with Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Arusha. There are also connections to the other northern circuit airstrips.
Flights into the Selous are generally suspended during the wet season from March to May. A meet and greet service is offered from Stiegler's Airstrip, which is just a half-hour's game drive away from the camp.
By road there are two options: the first is from Dar es Salaam to Mkongo via Kibiti (250 km); the second is from Dar es Salaam to Kisaki via Morogoron (350km). Journey times vary but are approximately 9-10 hours. 4WD is required throughout the year but even so the camp is often inaccessible during the long rains.
The reserve can be reached by train from Tazara stopping at Kisaki, which is about 5-6 hours from Dar es Salaam.
