Sanctuary Swala

Picture

Country:  Tanzania

Location: Tarangire National Park

Style: Luxury Tented Camp

Sanctuary Swala is located in a private section of  Tarangire National Park, famous for the large concentration of elephants and spectacular baobab trees.

This luxurious and exclusive camp has recently been rebuilt to the highest eco-friendly standards with a stunning infinity swimming pool overlooking the water hole.

The 12 luxurious canvas pavilions are shaded by tall acacia trees and provide a full view of the well frequented water hole which regularly draws lions, leopards and resident bull elephants, for which Sanctuary Swala is famed.

Each tent, with a spacious open plan arrangement, features plush furniture, en suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor shower, and its own personal attendant.

The main dining area, deck and library are raised around an enormous and ancient baobab tree.

Bush breakfasts and picnics are offered during daily game drives which provide you with unobstructed viewing and great photographic opportunities from customised open safari vehicles.   The river is the park’s lifeline and attracts much of the game to its banks.

In the evenings you are served bush dinners in secluded clearings around a magnificent log fire where guests are introduced to traditional Swahili fare under the African night sky.

At extra cost, night game drives with specialised lighting promise sightings of numerous wildlife including leopard, lion, hyena, antelope and smaller nocturnal creatures such as spotted genet, serval, bat eared foxes, owls and nightjars.

Also at additional cost are walking safaris which are a means of exploring the bush to examine details of  fauna and flora at close range.   These seasonal walks occur from July to October when you have the privilege of tracking game in the company of an experienced guide.    Zebra, waterbuck, impala, ostrich, elephant as well as a variety of birds are among the abundant wildlife encountered during this excursion.

Invitations are also extended for you to visit some of Sanctuary Swala’s philanthropic schemes, one of which is a pioneering community conservation project which includes building a primary school in the nearby village of  Mamire.

Another scheme is a beekeeping project located in the village of  Mwika providing a valuable source of income to the community.

Regrettably children under the age of 12 are not catered for.
