Royal Mara Safari Lodge

Picture

Country: Kenya

Location: Masai Mara Game Reserve

Style: Luxury Lodge

Royal Mara Safari Lodge is located in Kenya’s legendary Masai Mara ecosystem, directly on the wildebeest “great migration” route.

Nestling on a peninsula right on the banks of the Mara River, the camp marsh, resident hippo pools, lagoon and waterhole make game viewing inside the camp, in combination with game drives, a truly unforgettable safari experience.

Royal Mara offers a blend of the classic tented safari camp with the amenities of a lodge.

There are 8 riverfront tented chalets raised on mahogany platforms with large open verandas where you can relax while overlooking the breathtaking river scenery.

Each chalet has been individually decorated with artistically handcrafted furniture and magnificent four-poster beds.  They include electronic safe, mosquito net, mini bar, double vanity sinks, carved desks, and dining sets.

En suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water are fitted with rain showers, twin basins, bidets and flushing toilets.

The tent canvas wall frontage of the river suites can be opened completely to afford a spectacular river view.

A personal attendant is assigned to each chalet.

The main lodge features a reception desk, lounge, bar and dining areas, and a large veranda with outdoor barbecue.  These facilities are elevated one metre off the ground and overlook the Mara River.

Breads and desserts are made daily, and all meals are prepared with fresh produce.   They are served in diverse spectacular settings, i.e. near a hippo pool along the Mara River, on the open savannah, under the African stars or privately on your own veranda.

Game drives, under the supervision of expert certified guides, take you to unique and wildlife rich spots for optimal game viewing.

There is nothing more exhilarating than the thrill of seeing big game on foot.  Game walks are conducted in high density wildlife areas of the Masai Mara in the company of Masai guides and armed guards at a comfortable pace with intermittent stops.

Because of the huge variety of bird species in this area, there are walking bird safaris, or if you prefer, a 4WD can be arranged to explore the open savannah or other nearby marshes.

Elephant and buffalo herds often graze outside the Royal Mara and visit the camp waterhole daily.  You can also watch the baboons and other wildlife roaming in the bush across the river, as well as hippos bobbing in the Mara River below your veranda.

These resident hippos abandon their river sanctuary after sundown to graze amongst the river accommodation.   Guest suites are positioned on raised wooden decks with protective railings to insure your safety at all times.

Masai warriors and armed guards are posted outside each chalet at night to guarantee your safety.

Another exciting activity is a hot air balloon ride floating across the savannah plains above herds of wildlife.   You can also meet the local Masai community on a cultural excursion.
