Ngorongoro Farm House
Country: Tanzania
Location: Ngorongoro Crater / Karatu Style: Lodge Ngorongoro Farm House is a small, exclusive lodge facing the Oldeani Volcano. It nestles in a 500 acre coffee farm located about 5 km from the Lolduare entrance to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and was built to offer guests an atmosphere of the old days. 50 spacious cottages are designed on the style of an old colonial farm and rustically decorated with local materials. Standard features in each cottage are large beds with mosquito nets, telephones, en suite bathrooms with built in showers, and private verandas. Meals are normally served in the main building and sometimes a buffet lunch with local produce is set up around the pool. For special groups it is possible to book The Explorers Club. Cell phone and internet facilities are available at reception. Massages are also on offer. |
The Farm House is an ideal stopover for any safari in the Northern Circuit of Tanzania and a place to visit the Crater with its wealth of wildlife, or enjoy a host of activities such as a walking safari to the adjacent forest leading to the Oldeani Volcano.
You can also take an excursion to the nearby Lake Eyasi in the Rift Valley, still inhabited by a tribe of hunter-gatherers, the Hadzabe, a relic of ancient times who still follow a style of life similar to those who inhabited the Earth before the discovery of agriculture.
For cultural interaction you can visit the village of Karatu or the rehabilitated Njia Panda School.
Available walks escorted by guides are either through one of the very attractive paths in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area or around Ngorongoro Farm House in the afternoon which lasts about 1 hour.
Early in the morning or in the evening is a walk lasting about 2 hours round the roads of the farm escorted by a Masai guide introducing the Farm’s culture, customs and uses of plants.
