Mumbo Island Tented Camp
Location: Lake Malawi Naitonal Park
Style: Luxury Tented Camp
Mumbo Island Camp is named after the pristine, practically deserted tropical island on which it is built. The crystal-clear, warm waters of Lake Malawi National Park boast a multitude of fish species.
The camp is positioned on rocks high above the water - perfectly blending with the environment to create a place of rustic charm and minimal impact.
Accommodation at the intimate Mumbo Island Camp comprises 7 comfortable tents with hot bucket showers and 'eco-loos.' Each has its own shaded view-deck and hammock.
Strict principles of eco-architecture are adhered to, so the dining area, bar and water sport gazebo, are all hand built from timber, thatch and canvas.
The focus is on non-motorised water sports, therefore the most popular activities here are diving and snorkelling through the crystal-clear water or lazing in a hammock. Swimming, kayaking, and birdwatching are also popular.
For the more intrepid, there are boating and paddling options, exploring the granitic islands in a freshwater Rift Valley lake.
5 nature trails are clearly marked and can be done without a guide.
