Situated on a private island, Mnemba is off the north eastern tip of Zanzibar and is restricted to the exclusive use of guests and staff. Surrounded by a coral atoll it is home to an amazing diversity of marine life, and a breeding site for the highly endangered green turtles.
Magnificent coral reefs create an underwater wonderland of snorkelling and diving sites, while the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, white sandy beaches and brilliant sunshine offer seclusion and rustic exclusivity.
In an effort to protect and preserve these precious ecosystems, &Beyond has partnered with the Zanzibar government and the local fishing communities to have the atoll and its surroundings proclaimed the Mnemba Island Marine Conservation Area.
Each of the 10 palm-frond beachside bandas has a spacious bedroom filled with soft, natural fabrics and traditional woodcarvings. Ocean views stretch out from private verandas. A shady corridor of woven palm leaves leads to a large shuttered bathroom where a massive stone shower awaits behind a glass beaded curtain.
Open thatched common dining and sitting areas also offer majestic views of the white beach.
For the enthusiast, kayaking, windsurfing, fly-fishing and deep sea fishing are some of the enticing activities on offer. Mnemba follows a policy of catch and release. 2 dives per day are permitted, provided that you have a valid dive certification. A wide choice of diving courses is offered at an extra charge.
Spice Island tours on Zanzibar can be organised from the Island, and at an additional cost massage treatments are also available.
