Selous Game Reserve
Safari Lodge
Standing in indigenous forest high on the banks of the slow, brown Rufiji River, with magnificent views down to the plunging torrents of Stiegler's Gorge, the softly lit and breeze-cooled Mivumo River Lodge offers 12 luxurious rooms.

Each en suite room is accommodated in its own wildwood chalet with private viewing deck and plunge pool.

The buildings are traditionally thatched with high vaulted ceilings to allow maximum play of light and breeze.   Slightly raised on sprung wooden floors, the rooms feature picture windows and a mix of classic safari antiques and ultra-modern leather and rattan styled furniture.   The bathrooms also feature an exterior shower with marvellous wilderness views.

Room facilities include laundry, valet and shoeshine services, mineral water and toiletries, bathrobe and slippers, snacks and drinks, room service, safe and hairdryers.

Slightly raised on timber decks overlooking the Rufiji River, the open-sided central dining room, lounge, library and bar are in individual timber and thatched structures interconnected by wooden walkways, all providing you with excellent views of the hippos and elephants on the riverbank.

Breakfast and lunch are presented in buffet-style and offer a wide range of  international choices.   In the morning you can choose from a full ‘English Breakfast' as well as European options, while lunch menus will typically include meat, poultry, fish and vegetarian options.

The table d'hôte dinner menus feature a salad buffet, soup, entrée, pudding, cheese and biscuits and tea or coffee.   A selection of vegetarian dishes is always provided.   The majority of the meat and dairy products, fruits and vegetables are sourced from the communities that surround the reserve.

The wine list offers a broad selection of old- and new-world wines, and local and imported beers and spirits.   Also available are a wide range of soft drinks including an array of freshly-made local fruit juices, Tanzanian coffee and tea, as well as fruit and herbal infusions.

Camp activities include night and day game drives in custom built open-sided safari vehicles.   Other wildlife excursions include family boat safaris, guided walks and  family breakfasts in the reserve.    Culturally interactive trips to local villages and/or schools, and cultural dancing and heritage displays can also be arranged.

High on the bank of the river is an ‘infinity’ pool and sundeck where you can enjoy swimming supervised by a qualified lifeguard.   A wide selection of board games and books on Africa and the wilderness are available.   Professional nature guides offer nightly talks and video presentations on wildlife.

Additional camp services include 24-hour medical service, children's meals and beds, and babysitting.

Weddings and honeymoons are planned and catered for by the camp.

The Lodge is in the Selous National Reserve, which is 45 minute's flight from Dar es Salaam International Airport.   A meet and greet service is offered from Stiegler's Airstrip, which is a half-hour's game drive away from the lodge.
