Mfangano Island Camp is situated under ancient fig trees and occupies an entire secluded bay on the western shoreline of Mfangano Island in Lake Victoria.
All 6 double-bedded cottages, with private verandas, are situated on the lakeshore. Each room has been built in the Luo tribal style, with banana thatch and natural clay.
The honeymoon suite enjoys almost a 360 degree view of Lake Victoria.
All rooms feature en suite bathrooms with bath, shower, basin, flush toilet, and hot and cold running water.
An "horizon" swimming pool is also located right on the lakeshore.
At the centre of the camp is a sitting room and dining room where meals with fresh salads and the daily catch of Nile Perch are served overlooking the lake.
The many activities available are: fishing off boat rides on the lake; traditional excursions in a ‘long boat’ for sundowners; water sports, including water skiing; swimming either in the lake or pool; various walking trails or boat excursions along the lake shore for bird watching; trail walking or jogging on Island paths; visits to prehistoric cave paintings as well as to the local school and nearby village.
There are daily flights to and from the Masai Mara and Nairobi or a road transfer from Nairobi to Mbita (duration approx. 6 hours) followed by a boat ride to the camp (approx. 45 minutes).
Children of all ages are welcome and catered for.
The camp is open all year except during April and May.
