Lazy Lagoon

Picture

Country:  Tanzania

Location: Tanzanian Coast

Style: Beach Resort

Lazy Lagoon is an idyllic island 2km off the shore of mainland Tanzania.

A sand spit protected by a coral reef, the island is inaccessible by land at all times, thus maintaining its exclusivity.

The ecosystem on the island includes many small mammals such as bush babies, suni antelope and bush pig, plus birds and butterflies.

Low tide washes up a plethora of exotically coloured star fish, sea urchins and crabs.   All of these share their habitats with natural mangrove forest.

Accommodation is in 12 large airy natural makuti beach bandas with private verandas and balconies only metres from the shoreline.

Each has an en suite bathroom with shower, basin, and toilet.   Other amenities are a mosquito net, mosquito gauze windows and power for lighting and recharging batteries but not for hairdryers.

From the sundowner lounge above the bar, you can watch the sun rise over Zanzibar and set over the palm trees of Bagamoyo.

Absorb the Swahili atmosphere as they follow the flotilla of local fishing boats tack around the island transporting them from their villages on the mainland to their fishing grounds.

Meals offer a variety of choices and special diets can be catered for with prior notification.

The coral reef surrounding the island offers a great opportunity for snorkelling.

Other activities include fishing from the beach, excursions to Bagamoyo town, guided historical tours and kayaking in the lagoon.
