The Hippo Pool Bar is connected to the lodge by a 1km long wooden walkway which meanders through the Keekorok forest. The bar has a view of a permanent watering hole which is home to over 20 hippos and is visited regularly by elephants and lions.
There are no fences around Keekorok, therefore it is not uncommon to see elephant and buffalo on the perimeter of the grounds or even strolling through them.
Keekorok operates a fleet of custom-built 4 wheel drive vehicles with roof hatches designed for game viewing in comfort and safety accompanied by qualified and knowledgeable guides. Lunch boxes are available if your game drives last throughout the day.
Bird walks are taken every morning with the resident naturalist, for which a fee is charged.
Balloon safaris are operated daily depending on prevailing weather conditions and take off at 06.30, usually for 60 minutes duration. After the balloon experience a full English breakfast and sparkling wine or Buck’s Fizz are served adjacent to the landing site prior to a short game drive back to the lodge. Local regulations restrict flights to adults and children aged 6 years and over.
In evenings alternating with the showing of a wildlife video, a troop of Masai Morans (young men) entertain you to a 30 minute display of traditional dancing.
Nannies, special menus and mealtimes are available for children, and a listening service is available until 22h00 to detect wakeful children.
