Keekorok Mara Lodge

Picture

Country:  Kenya

Location: Masai Mara Game Reserve

Style: Lodge

Located in the very heart of Kenya’s fabled Masai Mara National Reserve, Keekorok, meaning 'motley abundance' in the local Masai language, provides accommodation in 89 double rooms, 8 superior rooms and 4 suites on an 80 acre site in an area of permanent springs and lush grassland.

The buildings are stone built bungalows with en suite bathrooms.   Each has a private balcony.

Most rooms overlook the Reserve while others face a large garden, and are decorated in matching wall colourings, fabrics and linen.

With a view over the well manicured lawns on one side and a spectacular internal rock garden on the other, the restaurant serves a variety of traditional African, Asian and Western food.

In keeping with Keekorok's atmosphere, you have the option to dine al fresco on the veranda, on the Elephant Deck overlooking the rolling savannah or in the wilderness in complete privacy.

The Discovery Bar and swimming pool bar are available to serve drinks and refreshments along with exquisite freshly ground Kenyan coffee.   The swimming pool is located in an enclosed area shaded by flowering shrubs and is provided with sun beds.

The Hippo Pool Bar is connected to the lodge by a 1km long wooden walkway which meanders through the Keekorok forest.   The bar has a view of a permanent watering hole which is home to over 20 hippos and is visited regularly by elephants and lions.

There are no fences around Keekorok, therefore it is not uncommon to see elephant and buffalo on the perimeter of the grounds or even strolling through them.

Keekorok operates a fleet of custom-built 4 wheel drive vehicles with roof  hatches designed for game viewing in comfort and safety accompanied by qualified and knowledgeable guides.   Lunch boxes are available if your game drives last throughout the day.

Bird walks are taken every morning with the resident naturalist, for which a fee is charged.

Balloon safaris are operated daily depending on prevailing weather conditions and take off at 06.30, usually for 60 minutes duration.   After the balloon experience a full English breakfast and sparkling wine or Buck’s Fizz are served adjacent to the landing site prior to a short game drive back to the lodge.    Local regulations restrict flights to adults and children aged 6 years and over.

In evenings alternating with the showing of a wildlife video, a troop of Masai Morans (young men) entertain you to a 30 minute display of traditional dancing.

Nannies, special menus and mealtimes are available for children, and a listening service is available until 22h00 to detect wakeful children.
