In the lush shade of ancient forest trees just off the shores of Lake Tanganyika, lies the small and intimate Gombe Forest Lodge accommodating 14 guests at a time.
Spacious safari tents with en suite facilities are elevated on timber platforms with private decks overlooking the tranquil forest. They are carefully positioned under the shade of huge mango trees around the main lodge, minimizing disturbance and impact on the environment.
The cosy dining area, just a couple of steps off the beach, is built on a wooden platform with an extended outside deck shaded by the forest. A small library with a selection of books and novels is also available.
Sundowners are served around a fire under the night sky, complemented by the lanterns of small wooden fishing boats bobbing on the lake like a sprawling city.
Trekking to see the chimps of Gombe is a magical experience. Children under the age of 15 years are unfortunately not permitted on these excursions.
In addition to swimming in the clear waters of the lake, snorkelling or simply relaxing on the beach, there are two spectacular waterfalls in the area, Kakombe, an easy half hour walk away, and Mkenke, a little further for the more adventurous.
