Flatdogs Camp
Flatdogs Camp is the closest camp to the Mfuwe main gate into the South Luangwa National Park.
The accommodation options include spacious Chalet Rooms, the Jackalberry Tree House, and luxurious en suite Safari Tents with stunning views. The en suite Chalet Rooms are made of stone and designed to keep you cool, and include a gauzed-in veranda. There is also 1 larger family Chalet with a deck overlooking the river. Each room has an electric fan and large mosquito nets surrounding the beds. The Jackalberry Tree House is built around 3 African ebony trees, and has 3 main decks which are approximately 8 feet off the ground with wooden stairways to reach the spacious sitting area and open-plan bedrooms. This house offers unspoilt views out across a dambo and lagoon system which is regularly visited by elephant and giraffe. A fridge and bar, as well as tea and coffee making facilities are provided. Private candlelit dinners can also be served here under the stars. Guests at the Tree House are equipped with a hand-held radio, as the secluded nature of the house means that a vehicle is needed to transport you up and down from the main camp. Since it is open to the stars, the tree house is available only during the dry season, from April to November each year. |

The luxury en suite Safari Tents are on the banks of the Luangwa River. They include a shaded open-air bathroom with hot shower, flush toilet and basin, mosquito nets and electric fans as well as fully-gauzed windows.
Slightly smaller and with bush views and settings, the standard en suite Safari Tents have open air bathrooms with hot showers, flush toilets and basins, and come with fully-gauzed windows, but no mosquito nets.
Mains electricity and plug sockets are provided in all the safari tents.
The restaurant serves meals either inside under the thatch, in the courtyard or in the garden area overlooking the river.
Other guest areas consist of a bar, gift shop and swimming pool. Night swimming is dependent on which large mammals may be using the pool as a watering hole !
Regular visitors to the camp are elephants, giraffe, hippo, puku and bushbuck.
Flatdogs conducts professionally-guided game viewing activities in the National Park, including morning and night drives and walking safaris.
