Entabeni Ravineside Lodge

Picture

Country: South Africa

Location: Waterberg

Style: Luxury Lodge

Ravineside Lodge is situated on the upper escarpment of the 22 000 ha Entabeni Safari Conservancy in the malaria-free Waterberg region of Limpopo Province overlooking the gorge.

Located under the shadow of Entabeni Mountain, Ravineside Lodge comprises thatched wooden lodges on stilts which hug the cliff edge.   These offer spectacular views of unspoilt ravines and wooded hillsides with an abundance of waterfalls, springs, crystal clear mountain pools and streams.

Each lodge has 3 or 4 luxury en suite bedrooms with a private open-plan lounge and bar area extending to the open sundeck.   From here the guests can indulge in bird and game watching and experience the beauty of the ravine with the rippling sound of water far down in the valley.

In room facilities are a ceiling fan, hair-dryer, safe, tea/coffee station, guest amenities, and mini bar.

Game drives or bush walks, undertaken by highly trained rangers, offer the privilege of up-close Big Five game viewing.   The emphasis is always to understand the bush and its various eco-systems.

Please note children under 12 years of age are not allowed to participate in the game walks.

Some of the large quantity of animals which can be seen are lions, brown hyena, black backed jackal, at least 15 species of antelope and even the beautiful but secretive leopard.

Rhinoceros are common on the reserve, and share the grass of the open savanna with the nocturnally feeding hippopotamus.

Horseback safaris provide another perspective on game viewing.   These rides last either 1 or 2 hours and also cater for guests with little or no previous riding experience.

However, more skilled riders have the opportunity to embark on a 2 day safari where they can track some of the Big Five whilst also following other game.   These rides cover rugged wilderness areas, only accessible by foot or on horseback, for 2 to 5 hours per day, encountering dangerous game (except lion).

Hot air balloon flights are a wonderful way in which to sight game.   These last approximately 45 minutes starting in the reserve but, depending on the flight direction and meteorological conditions, may land outside the reserve.

After landing the passengers re-join their ranger to drive through the reserve for breakfast in the bush or at the lodge.

Bush picnics and dinners can also be enjoyed in magical surroundings and bush venues, especially at Boekenhout and the breathtaking Hanglip view point.

Guests can take advantage of the observatory and listen to a professional astronomer explain the mystery and vast beauty of the southern night sky.

Some of the many other activities and facilities on offer are boat cruises, helicopter flights, paintball, abseiling, quad biking, a swimming pool, wellness centre, viewing deck and game/bird hide.
