The Engagi Lodge is situated in a large tract of land contiguous with the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. ‘Engagi’ means ‘gorilla’ in Rukiga, the language spoken in and around Bwindi.
This modern lodge, in a stunning setting, offers breathtaking views over the forest canopy. It was built entirely from rocks found in and around the site and eucalyptus trees, with the roof being thatched using banana fiber sourced from local farmers.
8 cottages are evenly distributed and concealed amongst the foliage. Each cottage has an en suite bathroom with flushing toilet, and hot and cold running water. All have private verandas for relaxing and soaking up the sublime view of the forest.
The main building is divided into 3 sections: a “rock” bar, the restaurant, and a large wooden veranda with a separate outdoor viewing platform.
The lodge is open ended at the front, allowing a dramatic view of the Bwindi National Park forest from every corner inside the building.
A variety of 3 course meals is served, and clients with special requirements are catered for by experienced Kampala trained chefs.
You are able to enjoy a number of private walking trails around the lodge and down to the river. Visits are also arranged to a functioning tea farm inside the site which is maintained by members of the community.
