Table Mountain
Even when living in Cape Town, it is impossible to take the beauty and enormity of Table Mountain for granted. On a clear, crisp, blue day, the picture literally takes your breath away, and there is nowhere you'd rather be.
Enjoy hiking on the mountain, or catch the cable car to the top to marvel at the panorama beneath, with views stretching to Cape Point and along the 12 Apostles, and all the way along the coastline. |
Kirstenbosch Gardens
Strolling through the Kirstenbosch Gardens, a 10 minute drive from the Waterfront, along the lower slopes of Table Mountain, makes you forget you are anywhere near a bustling city.
Spend a few hours enjoying the indigenous flora, or time it to spend a Sunday afternoon there enjoying one of the summer concerts. You will never find a more beautiful stage. |
The Winelands
No trip to Cape Town is complete without spending at least one day exploring the vineyards of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
All beautifully guarded by the rocky and mighty Jonkershoek Mountains, you can stay in luxury accommodation, or enjoy day tours from Cape Town to some of the picturesque vineyards which offer meals and wine tastings. |
Robben Island
Once you have visited Robben Island, you will have even more respect for the legendary Nelson Mandela. To have survived a prison sentence on the island, and depart with such forgiveness, shows the true strength of the great man.
Visit Robben Island on ferries departing from the V & A Waterfront, and ensure to book ahead of time by visiting www.robben-island.org.za. |
Shark Cage Diving
If lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffaloes aren't quite enough for you, take a dip (inside a cage) with some other ferocious creatures, Great White Sharks!
A couple of hours drive from Cape Town, Gaansbaai is one of the best places in the world to submerge yourself with these incredible predators and to come face to tooth with them as they glide a few centimetres away. |
Whale Watching from Hermanus
Hermanus is a beautiful, idyllic village, nestled between the mountains and the sea, which comes alive during the whale season, usually from May to December.
Watch for whales right from the shore, or go out on special cruises getting you up close to these majestic and enormous sea mammals. |
