Baine's CampCountry: Botswana Location: Okavango Delta Style: Luxury Lodge Activities: Land and water based (seasonal) Sanctuary Baines' Camp is located on a private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta.
Set in a grove of trees, and surrounded by papyrus beds, this low environmental impact camp has been built using commercially grown wood and recycled tin cans. The 5 luxurious suites have traditional safari ceiling fans, en suite facilities, and mosquito netting over the 4-poster beds which, if you desire, can be wheeled out onto the private wooden decks for a night under the stars. These decks overlook the Boro River where hippo can often be spotted. A communal swimming pool and the wide wooden deck surrounding the main dining and sitting room are ideal for you to relax while observing the varied wildlife such as lion and elephant wandering around the lagoon which is in full view from the camp. The park boasts a diversity of landscapes with desert, dry savannah, lagoon and swamps in close proximity. Morning and evening game drives in open 4 x 4 vehicles with expert guides, promise sightings of a huge range of wildlife including cheetah, crocodile and elephant. During higher water levels game drives will be combined with motorised boating excursions. Night drives are seasonal, depending on water levels. The abundant bird population would enthrall any enthusiastic twitcher. |
Walking safaris enchant visitors with the thrill of encountering wild game at close range. Highly trained guides guarantee safety throughout these
excursions, while introducing you how to track and follow even the most elusive of animals in the Okavango.
An exciting angle from which to view game is floating around the waterways and lagoons of the Delta in a mokoro, a dugout canoe which was originally carved from ebony, but is now made from commercially grown wood and fibreglass to protect the fragile Okavango environment. This activity is subject to water levels. For the less intrepid, motorised speedboats are used when the rivers are in flood.
An extraordinary treat at Sanctuary Baines’ Camp is the opportunity to walk at a leisurely pace with three semi-habituated elephants, observing and interacting with them in the bush, and discovering how they search for food, strip leaves from branches with their long trunks and take showers in the lagoons of the delta. Imagine a fully-grown African elephant as a guide through the African bush!
Scenic helicopter flights involve flying west of the game drive routes towards the permanent delta, exposing areas which are unreachable by vehicle or boat. You even have the option of the doors being removed for unrestricted photographic opportunities. This is done with the utmost consideration for everyone's safety.
Regrettably children under the age of 12 are not catered for.
Sanctuary Baines' Camp has its own registered private airstrip from which visitors will be transferred by vehicle to the boating station for an approximate 50 minute boat transfer to the camp.
